You’ve been considering this for some time: a Skywalker trampoline. Maybe your kids have been clamoring for one for so long you simply can’t put them off any longer. Of course, you have some reservations; you’ve heard stories about how they can be dangerous and you just don’t want your child hurt, especially with something you purchase for them.

The truth about Skywalker trampolines is that they are designed with the best safety standards in place. That may not be true with all of their competitors.

When you’re in the market for a Skywalker trampoline, you will probably see a lot of glowing reviews from previous customers. There’s a good reason for that: they’re durable, enjoyable, fun, and most importantly, safe.

So let’s help you find the perfect one for your family.

How Much Fun Do Kids Really Have on Trampolines?

This is a question I hear a lot from parents who are just starting to look for a trampoline. Maybe they’ve just forgotten their own experiences on these things when they were children, or perhaps they never had the opportunity to bounce around at a friend’s house on one.

Trampolines are a blast for kids and adults. There’s something inherently enjoyable about jumping up and down, far higher than we could ever do on our own.

Did you know there are trampoline parks all across the country that charge a lot of money for just one hour of bouncing fun? Gymnastics often use trampolines for training purposes.

Today, you can even head to your local mall and you just might find a small trampoline where kids can jump (in a harness, of course), at their leisure. These can cost a fair amount of money, even for just 10 or 15 minutes.

There’s a great thrill kids get when they can fly up into the air, feel their hair floating around them, and to be able to flip, bounce on their butt, and simply have a wonderful time.

Skywalker trampolines are ideal for kids just having some fun on their own or with friends.

Though it is not necessary for someone to be physically fit when using a skywalker trampoline, it certainly doesn’t hurt! Related: Best Ab Machines

Aren’t Skywalker Trampolines Dangerous?

This is an important question. Some trampolines in the past (several decades ago) were known to cause potentially serious injuries. Some even led to the deaths of young children.

But, if you look at those trampolines with the Skywalker trampolines, you’ll see there’s a significant difference between the two. Today’s Skywalker trampolines (as you can read through some reviews, too) are designed to be fully enclosed. The old, dangerous style trampolines were open, with the springs exposed, gaps where kids could fall through, and where neck injuries (along with broken arms and legs) were far too common.

Skywalker trampolines are enclosed with a fully safe netting that surrounds the entire structure. Once a kid or adult goes inside to have some fun they won’t accidentally fall out. The springs are also wrapped and there are no gaps.

Does that mean injuries are not going to happen?

No, they can. It all depends on each child or adult, their actions, and how much they’re properly taught with regard to how injuries occur. The most common injuries that can happen with Skywalker trampolines are sprained ankles or the occasional bent finger.

Your kids (and admit, you, too) need to be practical, smart, and use common sense when hopping around on a trampoline. They are designed for fun but just as with any sport, you still need to stay safe with your own common sense.

Considering Stability

Stability is an essential factor to the safety of any trampoline, Skywalker or any other brand /model. If the trampoline itself is not set up on a flat, smooth surface, it’s not going to be level. If it’s not level, there is a risk of the trampoline itself tipping over, especially when someone’s bouncing around on it with a lot of force.

Skywalker trampolines are designed to be incredibly stable when set up properly. That’s the key word there … properly.

When you receive your Skywalker trampoline (whichever one you ultimately choose to purchase), it’s imperative that you follow all instructions to the letter. If you don’t, if you’re the type of person who prefers to just take out all the parts, lay them on the floor, and begin putting things together however it makes sense to you, it might look good, and it might very well be close, but the stability could be compromised.

You don’t want your children to be at risk. You don’t want to be liable for any injuries your kids’ friends may sustain. So follow the directions.

Make sure the ground is level!

Wherever you plan to install and set up your Skywalker trampoline, review the ground and make sure it’s level. If you’re setting up outside (where most people have theirs), it might require some groundwork.

Move some dirt, do some digging, but whatever you do, make sure it’s level!

Caring for Your Skywalker Trampoline

Harsh weather conditions can affect a trampoline. So can direct sunlight. You’re probably going to keep your Skywalker trampoline outside, so you need to consider the environment and the immediate surroundings.

How much direct sunlight will it get?

In other words, will it be exposed to sunlight almost all day? If so, you’re going to notice the fabric becoming faded quickly. This can also dry out certain materials, including rubber.

While Skywalker trampolines are designed to be durable, under the constant assault of direct sunlight, even the most durable materials will slowly begin to fade, dry out, and possibly even weaken as a result of those ultraviolet rays from the sun.

Find adequate shade, if possible. If you can drag your trampoline relatively easily, bring it to a shaded area, especially if it’s not going to be used often.

Cover it. You can purchase a cover designed just for that model or you can simply get a tarp and wrap it around the trampoline. You don’t have to take the safety netting down to do this; you can cut a tarp to just cover the surface of the trampoline itself.

During rain and winter, think about rust. The springs are metal and can rust. Keep it as dry as possible. Clean it with some water and then thoroughly dry it every few weeks or month.

Ultimately, the best thing to use is a trampoline cover specifically designed for your model. This will also help keep the surface cooler during the summer months when not in use!

Thinking About Space

One of the most common concerns I hear from people looking to purchase a Skywalker trampoline involves space. “How much space will I need in my yard for one of these things?” I hear a lot.

The baseline Skywalker model that we look at in these Skywalker trampoline reviews is 10 feet around. That’s a 10-foot diameter, not circumference. So, at the very least, you’ll need at least 10 square feet of space in your yard for one of these.

However, you want to make sure there are no trees or other objects that could interfere with your kids hopping around on one of these trampolines. Power lines should be nowhere near a trampoline, and any large branches should be avoided. If one of them falls, it can either cause an incredible amount of damage to the trampoline or injury to anyone using it at that time.

Find a relatively open space, but make sure the area is level.

Some people have their trampoline in a basement room, such as an activity or play room. If you have the indoor space for that, just make sure there’s enough clearance overhead.

You don’t want your child hitting his or her head on the ceiling!

Ultimately, Skywalker trampolines are designed for outdoor use or a big training room.

Additions to Your Skywalker Trampoline

Some of the Skywalker trampolines that we review here come with a basketball hoop. That’s a great deal of fun right there for kids of all ages! However, there are additions that you can get and there may be some ideas you come up with on your own.

Just remember, if you design something to go with your Skywalker trampoline, you’re doing so without the express consent of the company; they can’t be held liable for any damages that may result, either to the trampoline or people.

Some people enjoy playing a unique version of volleyball with the larger trampolines.

You should consider a cover for your Skywalker trampoline, just to make sure it’s protected and lasts for as long as possible.

  • Stay-put enclosure net interlocks to the jumping mat by using a...

This is the top choice of most consumers. It is 15 feet around, at the diameter, and stands 9.5 feet high when you have the full safety net enclosure included. It offers reinforced T-sockets that stabilize the trampoline and that also helps to reduce any potential twisting of the structure itself.

Some of the reviews (though rare) complained that the safety net for this particular model didn’t hold together. However, upon closer examination of the reviews, that’s one in hundreds of people who complained about that, which leads us to wonder if it wasn’t put together improperly.

This trampoline, when properly used, can offer years of fun and safety for kids who just want to bounce around all afternoon.

This Skywalker trampoline is identical in size to the top seller on our list, but it comes with a basketball hoop as part of the deal. Of course, you could purchase your own aftermarket basketball hoop for trampolines, if that was important to you.

I noticed right away that the price for this 15-foot model and the bigger seller was different. This one was less expensive, so I had to start digging into why.

The material on this may not be as rugged as with the other model in this size. The trampoline itself has several seams which, when under a great deal of use, may not have the best durability over time.

We love the idea of having a basketball hoop as part of the trampoline itself, but it also means the safety net is a little lower than the other 15 foot model. That could cause some issues with regard to safety, especially for those higher jumpers.

PROS

  • check
    Good spacing
  • check
    Easy to put together

Space is a premium at your house. You don’t have a large lawn for excessive trampolines, but at the same time, you understand the importance of having a trampoline your kids (and their friends) can truly enjoy.

You begin to focus on the size of the trampoline itself and that brings you to consider the 12 foot size. While three feet might not seem like a big deal, it’s a lot of land space when you’re in a tight area.

The 12 foot Skywalker trampoline Jump N’ Dunk is really no different than the 15 foot version except in size, it does have a slightly lower netting area. That means if your kids are high jumpers, they could put themselves at risk of landing on top of the netting and doing some serious damage to it.

PROS

  • check
    Good design
  • check
    Easy to put together
  • check
    Nice, comfortable size
  • check
    Simple basketball hoop

CONS

  • check
Not very durable, according to some users
  • check
Not a high netting area for safety
  • check
May not last a year under constant use
  • check
Stability becomes questionable with smaller versions

We’re getting smaller as we go down our list and while this may be preferable for those who might be looking to save space, and even though many of the Skywalker trampoline reviews are incredibly comparable, the smaller you go, the more you have to be concerned about stability.

The 10 foot trampoline featured here has the same metals and materials that not only offer some strength but also resist rusting for a while, that narrower base if going to put kids more at risk if they are a bit reckless (as most kids tend to be from time to time).

However, and this is an important ‘however,’ this size is ideal for those with limited space and who don’t want to give in to the idea they simply can’t enjoy the benefits of a trampoline.

PROS

  • check
    Smaller size
  • check
    Decent design
  • check
    Nice colors
  • check
    Simple set up

CONS

  • check
A bit flimsier than larger models
  • check
Doesn’t save as much space as most people hoped
  • check
    Netting intrudes on jumping space
  • check
Only good for one or two kids at once, at most

5. Skywalker Trampolines Jump N' Dunk Trampoline with Safety Enclosure and Basketball Hoop, 8-Feet

Having a child who absolutely wants a trampoline when you don’t actually live in a place that can store one is tough. It can be frustrating. That’s where the 8-foot trampoline by Skywalker offers.

It’s certainly a space saver, but there are going to be issues when you’re getting to this size. Even though it comes with a basketball hoop specially designed for this trampoline, it’s not going to be a good fit for more than one or two kids, at most, and that’s stretching it a bit.

These small trampolines also pose issues with regard to balance. The smaller the diameter, the less stability you’re going to get. It’s something you have to determine whether it’s worth it or not for you and your kids at this time.

PROS

  • check
    Small size
  • check
    Convenient for storing
  • check
Basic lightweight model makes it easy to move around
  • check
    Fun for younger kids

CONS

  • check
    Not very stable
  • check
Not ideal for more than one or two kids
  • check
May not hold up for long
  • check
    Safety netting may be suspect

Conclusion

When you’re in the market for a Skywalker trampoline, you’re going to read a lot of reviews from previous customers. Take note of many of these reviews because the majority of them appear to be written shortly after purchase and set up.

The smaller ones are going to have problems when it comes to stability and balance and over time and excessive use, kids are going to wear out these trampolines.

If you truly want a great bargain when shopping around for a trampoline, then do yourself a favor and stick to the larger model, the 15 foot size. Not only will this be a lot of fun for your kids and their friends, it’ll hold up better over time.

You couldn’t do better than choosing the Skywalker Trampolines 15-Feet Round Trampoline and Enclosure with Spring Pad. It is the best selling and highest rated and reviewed trampoline in this line of products. It’s cost-effective and perfect for kids of all ages.

It offers the best stability, the best construction, and widest base, and the safety net is ideally set up to keep your kids safe while they’re jumping around on it for hours on end, day after day, week after week, month after month!
