Your Top Guide to the Best Power Tower. You’re getting in shape. Or, perhaps, you’re tired of the way you look or feel, your low energy, or even the exorbitant cost of gym memberships these days.

You may own a house or rent an apartment. Ultimately, you want to get in better physical condition and you’re in the market for the best power tower you can find.

Ultimately, it comes down to five:

While they all offer the basic same stations, these power towers are not all created equal, and depending on your specific needs, one may be better suited for your current conditioning or even your current living space.

The Benefits Of Home Fitness

Operating in top physical condition is vital for not just your overall health, but many aspects of life. You can avoid a lot of health issues if you get in better condition. People who exercise regularly often report fewer colds, more energy, and a more positive attitude.

When you begin to sculpt your body and have a definition with your muscles, you’re going to be proud of the way you look. It will boost your self-esteem and confidence, and that can have an incredible effect on not only your personal life, but probably relationships and, depending on the work you do, your professional career.

Gym memberships have become so expensive that only the most die-hard individuals bother with them anymore. But saving money on those costly memberships are just one of several benefits to home fitness.

1. Saving money. With the average gym membership today, you’d be dropping at least $20 per month just to get in and stay in shape. Even with the most expensive model on our list (the XMark VKR), it would pay for itself just in saved gym membership fees within 10 months. Yes, you’ll be able to use it for years.

2. No excuses! How many times have you not gone to workout somewhere else, like at a gym, because you had some excuse? Maybe it was snowing or raining, or you didn’t have the time. With your own best power tower for the money, you’ll have no more built-in excuses to not get in your best physical shape. Ever!

3. Convenience. When you have your fitness station at home, it’s so convenient. You won’t need to slug your way through traffic, wake up an hour earlier just to get showered, dressed, and ready to sweat or have to wait for your machine to open up. It’ll always be open.

Their interests motivate some of these detractors. More specifically, they often work for gyms, and when you’re no longer a prospective client, they’ll lose money.

You don’t need to keep paying ridiculous fees to be a member at a gym just so you can line someone else’s pockets, not when you can have one of these top power towers right there in the comfort of your own home!

Tough And Durable Stations

When we set out to rate the best power tower, we focused on ease of use and durability. There’s no point investing in something that’s just going to break down within a year or two.

You’re going to have to put these towers together when they arrive. You want to follow instructions, but as you’re investing some time into that, you want to be sure it’ll hold up under continued use.

These stations are all designed with the best materials and workmanship, which helps to ensure that they will all stand the test of time. In 20 years, when you’re moving and suddenly find this tucked in the back corner of your basement, having long been neglected and forgotten, it’ll still be just as strong and ready for use as when you first bought it.

The fundamental Exercises People Do with A Power Tower

All of these power towers offer most of the same options about exercises. Some people do all of these while others may be more inclined to focus on a specific two or three.

Remember, it’s best to focus on a specific muscle group each day. For example, when you want to slim down and tighten your abs, you’ll be doing vertical knee raises, sit-ups, and possibly even leg lifts to get those muscles working their hardest.

The next day you might want to work on your arms and back. Then, the next day you may work on leg muscles.

The key exercises that people do with these power towers are:

  • check
    Vertical knee raises
  • check
    Sit-ups
  • check
    Pull-ups
  • check
    Dips
  • check
    Push-ups

“But can’t I just do all of that somewhere else and save a ton?”

First, maybe. There are places, including right there in your own home, where you might be able to do these same exercises. But, it’s not going to be comfortable nor will it be ergonomic, meaning the risk of injury to you increases when you do.

Second, even if you’re earning minimum wage, the most expensive tower on this list isn’t a ‘ton of money.’ It’s less than what you paid for that 55-inch flatscreen TV, or two months of your iPhone coverage plan.

Taking Care Of Your Power Tower

These power towers don’t require much in the way of care. They are stain resistant, rust resistant, and sweat resistant. The padding is where you need to place your highest focus on care.

Be sure to wipe down the entire machine after each use, especially the foam padding for your back, elbows, and hands.

A damp rag would be more than sufficient to wipe away the sweat, salt, and moisture created by your body as you’re fully invested in this incredible exercise regimen.

If, for some reason, you don’t use your power tower for a week or more, be kind to it. Run a dusting cloth across the surface. If you allow dust to build-up on any surface, not only will it begin to look old and less appealing, it could create some slick spots when you begin exercising with it once again.

Ultimately, Your Conditioning Depends On You

The bottom line is this: your physical conditioning is dependent on you. Not on a gym, not on a physical trainer, and not on the type of equipment you have.

Yes, that being said, when you look at the top athletes in the world, the equipment they use matters to them. The more experience you have exercising, the more important comfort and little nuances will make a difference.

If you’re determined to get in the best physical condition of your life, then you owe it to yourself to add one of these power towers to your home workout routine.

  • Steel frame construction for solid support

The first look at the Stamina 1690 Power Tower it looks delicate and like it can’t handle a significant amount of weight working out on it, especially for a long period.

Surprisingly, though, this one gets a lot of great reviews. From the picture online, it looks as though the pull-up bar is angled, which would make for awkward pull-ups, but don’t worry, that’s just an optical illusion.

It seems to have been designed to look good in the home, which may be necessary to a lot of people. I know it’s important to me.

It may not look like much, but due to its slim look and basic design, it’s perfect for most living situations in which space is a priority.

PROS

  • check
    Nice, slim design.
  • check
Stable, but only for a limited amount of weight.
  • check
    Easy to setup and use.
  • check
No special tools required for putting it together.
  • check
You work most major muscle groups.

CONS

  • Durability is questionable.
  • Its lightweight leads to more stability issues.
  • Main vertical bar angles inward, creating an awkward stance.
  • If the wingnuts aren’t secured tight, rattling can occur.
  • May not protect floors as well as other models.

2. XMark VKR Vertical Knee Raise

  • Extra thick 2.5-inch high-density cushion and double stitched,...
  • Heavy 14-gauge steel mainframe construction with scratch...
  • Skid resistant rubber feet to protect your floors
  • 350 lb. user weight capacity

I’m one of those people who gets a bit nervous when a power tower is narrow like the XMark VKR. While the base sits about shoulder width apart, any swaying can cause a bit of instability.

However, this power tower more than makes up for it with durability and comfort. Working out with this model is a breeze and everything seems to be in the most convenient position so you can go from one station to the next fluidly.

I like the fact that the push-up position is on the same side of the machine like most other stations, except the pull-up bar. This offers convenience, especially in tighter quarters.

This is the type of machine that inspires you the moment you wake up thanks to its rugged look.

PROS

  • check
    Slim.
  • check
    Great for tight spaces.
  • check
Perfect for people under 6’ in height.
  • check
Can handle up to 350 pounds.

CONS

  • Expensive.
  • A little too short for taller people.
  • Instability is a problem.
  • Not the best design for comfort.

Body Champ has a solid reputation for great machines. This is no different. The first time I looked at the Body Champ Power Tower I assumed it was meant for a gym and not my home.

Its width is more suited for stability, and the position of bars makes it convenient for every exercise its designed for. What I truly appreciate about the Body Champ Power Tower is the option for two different types of pull-ups. You can either have a wider position of your hands, focusing on specific muscle groups in your arms, shoulders, and upper chest, or bring them closer.

It’s a nice option to have when you want to get the most out of your home workouts. Middle of the road price tag isn’t too shabby, either.

PROS

  • check
    Solid machine.
  • check
    Simple, streamlined design.
  • check
Can handle a lot of weight.
  • check
    Good stability.
  • check
Plenty of minor options for workouts.

CONS

  • If you add weight to your dips, it can become unsteady.
  • Customer service may be suspect.
  • Dip bar places you outside the center of balance.
  • The pull-up bar might slip off-balance with larger users.

4. XMark Power Tower

XMark Power Tower with Dip Station and Pull Up Bar XM-4434
  • Multi-Function Power Tower With Vertical Knee Raise, Dip Station,...
  • Extra thick 2 inch high-density cushions and double stitched,...
  • Heavy 14-gauge steel mainframe construction with scratch...
  • Skid resistant rubber feet to protect your floors
  • 350 lb. user weight capacity

The second XMark on the list for our top 5 is the Power Tower XM-4434 and like its cousin, it’s a good machine.

Simple in design, it does have a few of the same limitations that the other model has, most notably a narrow center, which creates some balance problems.

It’s also up there in price, which can turn some off, especially considering the possibility it could shift with a heavier person working out.

A lot of other user reviews stated the same concern about stability. Because it is so narrow, if you’re doing any type of routine that throws you slightly off-balance, that can become a major concern.

The push-up station is positioned well, and that’s something most people I know would use a lot, but the dip station can be awkward to use, thanks to the handrail for the vertical knee raise being right there, where your elbows would want to land.

PROS

  • check
It’s slim, so it’s great in tight spaces.
  • check
Sturdy, up to a weight limit.
  • check
You can make minor adjustments to setup to suit you better.
  • check
Well thought out design for all stations.
  • check
    Good, solid feet protect floors.

CONS

  • May tip easily, especially with heavier people.
  • Bars are too small for larger people.
  • Not ideal for dips.
  • No sit-up station for practical use.
  • Back support on vertical knee raise doesn’t seem practical.

5. Weider Power Tower

One look at the Weider Power Tower and its love at first sight. Sure, I know we’re not supposed to be gauging quality on appearance, but my apartment isn’t the largest abode in the world; I need to think about space and appearance.

The red on black padding for your back jumps out as a detail Weider focused on, and for a good reason.

As a power tower, this one provides some key advantages over the others about the station itself. Most notably the independent utility bench and weight plate storage.

However, we’re not looking for appearance, are we? We’re seeking out functionality. The back pad for the vertical knee raise is straight, and that might not work best for most people.

The bars also interfere with dips and the machine may slip off-balance as a result of this station.

PROS

  • check
    It looks awesome.
  • check
It has a lot of features some of the other powers don’t have.
  • check
    It offers Olympic width.
  • check
You get an exercise chart with it.
  • check
    Good non-slip padding.

CONS

  • Assembly may be problematic for some due to the hole sizes for bolts not being perfect.
  • Packaging is sometimes poor.
  • Potential damage in shipping.
  • Dip station can put you off-balance.
  • Hand bars don’t seem to be well thought out (positioning).

My Choice

I enjoyed working out with all of these stations and while you can’t go wrong with any of them when you have a specific need to focus on (muscle group), if you want an all around solid workout, don’t want to overspend, and you have to think about space in your home, then you’d do well to go with the Stamina 1690 Power Tower.

This was actually a surprise to me when I first set out to test each of these units. The Stamina simply looked like the flimsiest, the one that you wouldn’t bother with if you’re a serious person bent on getting in top physical condition.

Yet, there it is. Many other users agree that while it may look like a lightweight among heavyweights, it stands at the top.

When you’re looking for a workout station that truly gets your blood pumping and that inspires you every time you look at it, you’re not going to go wrong if you choose the Stamina 1690 Power Tower.

  1. Thanks for sharing this information on power tower. A narrow power tower is surprisingly a better option for some.

  2. Home fitness clubs have ripped many of their cash, though that is targeted at those who skip classes. This power tower is a good alternative for a busy executive.
